Terms of Service

1. Agreement to terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Pulida Wo, operated by the Uganda Law Society (ULS). By accessing or using Pulida Wo — including the mobile app, web application, USSD services, and this website — you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.

2. About Pulida Wo

Pulida Wo helps members of the public find and connect with advocates, access legal information, and coordinate matters after an advocate agrees to assist. Pulida Wo is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Content on the platform is for general information and coordination purposes only.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and capable of entering a binding agreement to use Pulida Wo. By using the platform, you represent that you meet these requirements.

4. Accounts and access

4.1 Registration

You may need an account to use certain features. You agree to provide accurate information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.

4.2 Roles

Pulida Wo supports different user roles (clients, advocates, and authorised staff). Access is limited by role. You may not attempt to access data or features outside your authorised role.

4.3 Account suspension

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, pose security risks, or are required to be restricted by law or professional rules.

5. Client use

When submitting a legal request through Pulida Wo:

• You agree to provide truthful and complete information to the best of your knowledge
• You understand that submission does not create an attorney-client relationship until an advocate explicitly accepts your matter
• Pro bono or limited-scope assistance may apply; scope and terms are defined when an advocate accepts
• You will not use the platform for unlawful purposes, harassment, or fraudulent claims

6. Advocate use

Advocates using Pulida Wo agree to:

• Maintain valid ULS membership and comply with professional conduct rules
• Respond to requests in good faith and within reasonable timeframes
• Protect client confidentiality in accordance with applicable law and professional obligations
• Accurately represent availability, capacity, and practice areas
• Not misuse client data obtained through the platform

7. Staff and administrative use

Authorised ULS staff may access platform data for administration, support, auditing, and compliance. Staff use is governed by internal ULS policies and applicable law.

8. Legal information and content

Legal guides and articles published through Pulida Wo are for general information only and do not constitute legal advice. Always consult a qualified advocate for advice specific to your situation. ULS endeavours to keep content accurate but does not warrant completeness or suitability for every circumstance.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Violate any applicable law or regulation
• Infringe intellectual property or privacy rights of others
• Upload malware, attempt unauthorised access, or interfere with platform operation
• Scrape, reverse engineer, or automate access except as expressly permitted
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation
• Use the platform to distribute spam or harmful content

10. Intellectual property

Pulida Wo, its branding, software, and content provided by ULS are protected by intellectual property laws. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the platform for its intended purpose. You retain ownership of content you submit, but grant ULS a licence to use it as necessary to operate the service.

11. Third-party services

Pulida Wo relies on third-party services (including Google Firebase). Your use may also be subject to those providers’ terms. ULS is not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control.

12. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PULIDA WO IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE UNINTERRUPTED SERVICE, ERROR-FREE OPERATION, OR THAT ANY ADVOCATE WILL ACCEPT YOUR REQUEST.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ULS AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF PULIDA WO. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR DIRECT DAMAGES SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM (IF ANY) OR UGX 100,000, EXCEPT WHERE LIABILITY CANNOT BE LIMITED BY LAW.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ULS from claims arising from your misuse of the platform, violation of these Terms, or infringement of third-party rights, to the extent permitted by law.

15. Dispute resolution and governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Uganda. Disputes shall first be addressed through good-faith contact with ULS support. Where unresolved, disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Uganda, unless mandatory law provides otherwise.

16. Changes to terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Material changes may be communicated through the app or by email.
